Honours so far include: the American Book Award, the Robert F. Kennedy Distinguished Honor Award, the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, The Los Angeles Times Book Award, the Muslim Public Affairs Council’s Media Award, and the Courage in Media Award from the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
The book has also been honored by the Arab Cultural and Community Center and the Arab American Institute. It was a New York Times Notable Book of 2010 and a Best Book of the Year in the San Francisco Chronicle, Chicago Tribune, New Yorker, Guardian, Huffington Post, and O, The Oprah Magazine.
